Chinua Achebe biography

This is a biography about Chinua Achebe, more commonly known as Albert Chinualumgu, an Igbo novelist born in Ogidi, Nigeria.

BIOGRAPHY

Albert Chinualumogu Achebe, Igbo novelist, was born in Ogidi, Nigeria. He is more commonly known as Chinua Achebe. His father was a teacher in a missionary school. He was educated at the Government College in Umuahia and the University College of Ibadan. After working briefly as a teacher,

he joined the Nigerian Broadcasting Company. He later taught in several universities and cofounded a publishing company with Christopher Okigbo.

Achebe published his first novel, THINGS FALL APART, when he was 28. He is also a noted essayist and became famous for his 1977 collection MORNING YET ON CREATION DAY. He has been awarded the Margaret Wrong Prize, the New Statesman Jock Campbell Prize, and the Commonwealth Poetry Prize.

1944 He attended Government College in Umuahia.

1953 He received his B.A. From the University College of Ibadan.

1954 He joined the Nigerian Broadcasing Company in Lagos.

1961 He became director of External Broadcasting at the Nigerian Broadcasting Company.

1985 He became professor emeritus at the University of Nigeria.
